Dallas Clark
Dallas Clark was born June 12, 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Clark attended Twin River Valley High School in Bode, Iowa and while attending Twin River Valley, Clark lettered in several different sports, including Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. Clark was a linebacker on the football team while in high school and very successful one at that. He earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman and was second team all-conference as a sophomore. Clark’s junior season was his breakout year as he recorded 140 tackles and was named team MVP. As a senior, Clark was team MVP and captain, and racked up 160 tackles. Not only was he named first team all-conference but also second team all-state.
Clark didn’t have the easiest road in college, and he definitely had to work to become successful. He decided to attend the University of Iowa and walked onto the football team as a freshman. Clark wasn’t able to get any playing time in his first season, and his sophomore year he was essentially a special teams player. Prior to his junior season at Iowa the coaches decided to move him from linebacker to tight end, a move which ended up defining the rest of his college career. Clark had found his calling as a tight end, and got plenty of playing time at that position. He started 10 games at tight end and had 539 yards on 38 catches in his junior season, which earned him honorable mention for the All-Big Ten. Before his final season, Clark was finally granted a scholarship, and definitely earned that scholarship throughout the year. He was the best tight end in college football during his final season at Iowa, and was honored with the John Mackey Award. Not only did he win the award for the nation’s best tight end but he was also honored as first team All-Big 10 as well as first team All-American.
After having a fantastic senior season at Iowa, Clark moved on to the NFL and entered his name in the 2003 NFL Draft. He was drafted 24th overall, in the first round by the Indianapolis Colts. During his first season with the Colts, Clark started 10 games but his season was cut short after breaking his leg in a game vs. the Patriots. His 2006 season went a similar way, as he started 11 games but injured his knee in a game vs. the Eagles. Clark was able to fight back from the injury and come back in time for the playoffs giving the Colts an offensive spark in his return. During the Playoffs, Clark and the Colts played wonderfully and went on to win Super Bowl 41 against the Chicago Bears.
Clark has been extremely successful in the NFL, both individually and with the Colts. 2009 marked the best season of Clark’s career and could be considered one of the best seasons ever by a tight end in history. Clark reeled in 100 catches for 1,106 yards, and added 10 touchdowns. His 100 catches made up the second time that a tight end had ever crossed that mark in a single season. 2009 also gave Clark his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection.
